I anssen signed for Spurs from AZ Alkmaar in 2016 and only played 42 times for the club since. They struggled to sell the 25-year-old in previous transfer windows. However, a €7million move for the forward has been agreed with Monterrey. The Liga MX teawould be wary of starting pitcher in Week 1 (March 31-April 7) since his track record against the Angels isn’t very strong.

Holland, who will make his season debut Friday opposite Jason Vargas, is 7-5 with a 5.58 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 16 career games (13 starts) against the Angels. Last season, Holland went 2-2 with a 7.00 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in four starthis new club. The English central defender has arrived for a record fee for a defender. He will have his work cut out for him at United, given the team finished sixth last season and conceded goals for fun.”It’s a young team now and I think we’ve got bs against Los Angeles.

Oh yeah, and the start is at home, where Holland owns a 5.34 fee from Arsenal to release Mikel Arteta.City assistant coach Arteta is the frontrunner for the Gunners job after talks with club officials at his mansion in Manchester on Sunday. The Mirror says City have told the Gunners it will cost them a seven-fERA and 1.45 WHIP in 284 2/3 innings.

Trading Rick Porcello would be a mistake

starting pitcher has been involved in trade rumors throughout the spring. The latest is that the and are “active” in talks on Porcello, . The Tigers reportedly would need a “strong” return to cough up Porcello, and it’s always worth listening to offers, so the Tigers aren’t doing anything wrong.

Yet.

If they do trade Porcello, however, I believe they will regret it down the road.

The folly would be to surmise that Porcello has had four years in the majors and has proven he’s not a quality starter. He was 10-12 with a 4.59 ERA last season and led the AL in hits allowed, sure, but he’s still only 24 years old. History is lined with both l tactical advice to the players.Ronaldo is now owner Real Valladolid, while Berlusconi controls Monza.”Why did you never make a goal from the corner? It’s so easy,” Ronaldo claimed Berlusconi said.“Put everybody outside the area and when he kicks iate bloomers and players who didn’t even hit the majors until they were 24. There’s a reason why Porcello was taken in the first round out of high school and landed a spot in the Tigers’ rotation at the tender young age of 20. He’s incredibly talented.

And we nue to grow. The 22-year-old has scored eight goals which is good enough to make him the joint-leading scorer in the Premier League.Although he didn’t score in Saturday’s win over Newcastle, Lampard is pleased with other facets of Abraham’s game.Lampamight just be seeing the start of something special this spring.

This obviously comes with a huge caveat. Spring stats for the most part don’t mean much. There are just far too many circumstances that don’t equate to success in the regular season. With someone young and on the trading block like Porcello, however, I feel like it’s worth a look. And he has a 2.50 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in 18 innings this spring. Oh, and zero walks. That’s right. Eighteen strikeouts and zero walks in 18 spring innings.

So Porcello could very well be primed for a breakout season, meaning the Tigers have the potential to have an elite rotation.

The flip side to the argument would be that the Tigers are in “win now” mode and that holding a youngster in hopes that he breaks out goes against the mindset. I’d offer up two items in rebuttal:

1. Porcello is the fifth starter. Not a prospect. 2. What the Tigers reportedly seek in return — a right-handed hitting outfielder and/or a closer — isn’t worth coughing up a major-league-caliber starter with breakout potential like Porcello.

The Tigers might have no intention of trading Porcello and instead are merely listening to offers because they are .The 24-year-old rarely posts on social media, but took to Twitter just before 9pm to reveal his home down south had been broken into while he popped out for some food with his partner, Lauren, reports the Evening Chronicle.Hayden had been spending tgetting them. If that’s the case, they are doing exactly what they should — because trading Porcello right now would be a mistake.

Cardinals camp report: If anyone can take loss of Carpenter, Lohse …

content_img

JUPITER, Fla. — Every year it seems, the lose a star, a legend or an icon — sometimes for the year, and sometimes for good.

So if any team can absorb the sudden loss of perennial October hero , it is St. Louis. Carpenter isn’t coming back this season, no matter what the rumor mill spins out. His nerve condition was causing pain or discomfort in his shoulder and his back, and discoloration in his fingers. Retirement seems more realistic than return.

So it’s not a matter of Carp doing what he usually does, which is toughing it out. There’s no amount of tough to combat this sort of pain, numbness and discoloration.

“We just want him to be happy. We don’t want him to walk around with a numb arm the rest of his life,” said , who will be counted on to be the ace in the absence of both Carpenter and , the real 2012 ace who’s still job seeking though perhaps not on the Cardinals’ immediate radar.

Wainwright’s comments epitomize the Cardinals way in recent years. Whether it’s Tony LaRussa managing or now able replacement Mike Matheny, no group seems to have a greater sense of team, a greater resolve or more intense focus. They come together, time and again.

Spring TrainingColumnRelated links |

Carp, they all say, is going to be missed as much for chemistry as sabremetry. Around here, cohesion counts.

But while they won’t have Carpenter around to watch their bullpens, to cheer them on from the bench and advise them from the foxhole, like usual, the impression he left will live on.

“He left his mark,” said. “Now it’s our job to continue to carry it on.”

Two years ago, it was Wainwright who went down for the year, and the Cardinals were counted out, several months before they won World Series No. 11. Last year, it was a trio of legends who left — , La Russa and Dave Duncan. Now Carpenter is out for the year (more likely forever) and Lohse is probably going elsewhere.

Carpenter is the loss that’s recalled today because Lohse was presumed gone as soon as he turned down the team’s $13.3 million qualifying offer. Carpenter was assumed back, especially after his first several Busch stadium workouts with young fireballer went without a hitch. Then suddenly, there was pain, numbness and discoloration, a trifecta that would KO anyone, even the beloved Carp.

In a way though, Lohse, who is fielding interest from others right now (and could become of interest to St. Louis, but likely only if its starters aren’t panning out here) is the bigger loss. He went 16-3 last year, and that’s with three one-run defeats and six late leads blown by the bullpen. He was more the man than even the vaunted Carpenter in 2012. “Let’s be honest,” once Cardinals person said, “Carp threw only 17 innings last year.”

Whether it was 17 or 170, the Cardinals will find a way to overcome, because that is what they do. Which brings us to the big question: How do they do it? And more, to the point, can they do it again?

The easy answer is: Why not?

Seeing as how they defender Jan Vertonghen is not ruling out a move away from the club. The veteran defender has been at Spurs since 2012.But he is unsure whether his long term future lies in North London, especially given Spurs’ policy of wanting a younger squad. He sa endured the loss of Wainwright for a season to the win the 2011 World Series, the retirements/defection of La Russa, Duncan and Pujols plus the loss of Carpenter (for all but 17 innings plus postseason) to make it within one game of the World Series in 2012, who’s to say they can’t make it without Carpenter and Lohse (plus , the ’11 hero who recovered and is with his home-state Rangers)?

Here are six reasons the Cardinals are playoff contenders yet again:

Their lineup is AL-caliber once again. , Holliday, , and form one of the deepest batting orders in the game. Plus, the little guys can hit, too. Veteran shortstop , assuming he’s back to health (he says he is), improving and second-base hopefuls and (especially Carpenter) are all threats , too. “One through eight, we offer tough outs,” Holliday said.Even without Carpenter and Lohse, the rotation looks better than most, and maybe even better than that. Wainwright is a bona fide ace when right, and should be even better his second year back after Tommy John surgery. , and provide viable alternatives for the middle of the rotation, though with Garcia comes the obvious question of the health of his shoulder after he was shut down last October, along with some ultra-fastidiousness that can worry the bosses, too.Between , and , they have not one or even two but three top pitching prospects who could more than adequately replace Carpenter, at least in terms of numbers. “We’re going to miss Carp. But I think all three can do it,” Molina said. All three are upper-90s throwers, and Rosenthal hits 100 with ease. “The nation got to see what they could do. Their demeanor is way beyond their years,” said Freese, who showed poise early when he was a World Series hero his second season. All three bring reason to believe their time is now. Kelly impressed in 16 starts for the Cards last year, Rosenthal wowed them out of the ‘pen and Miller, with a superb repertoire, is maybe one of the top two or three pitching prospects in the game. This trio is the envy of just about every other team. “Good young pitchers in this game, it’s like gold,” Holliday said.Molina is one of the best players in the game. He’s no longer a secret star after his third-place National League MVP finish, but this two-way gem is no less valuable. The worth of the best defensive catcher in the game who also is a .315 hitter (with .874 OPS) is close to incalculable. “If he’s not one of the top five players in the game, I’d be surprised,” Holliday said. To which Molina responded, “That’s what you do the work for, to be considered like that.”Their depth is perhaps better than ever. If Furcal can’t make it, , who helped get the Cardinals into the NLCS last season and “opened eyes” in the words of GM John Mozeliak, plus provide two more options. Descalso, another September/October hero, plus Carpenter, who could be explosive offensively, are two viable second-base options (with Kozma). is .It was the first time in two years the former Ajax captain had been benched.”Naturally, I would have preferred to play and I had no clue in training so I didn’t expect to be on the bench,” said De Ligt after the victory.”I respect the decision. “Thea nice bat off the bench while Kolten Wong, and power hitting provide further infield depth. They did lose a bit of veteran leadership with Berkman and gone to the Rangers and Dodgers. If they are missing something truly vital, the front office will figure it out. Their top-ranked system is a reflection on the job the front office does, and it is also adept at filling in the gaps. Mozeliak, who just received a well-deserved extension, added to the depth by acquiring the type of help one doesn’t normally get from the farm, namely a veteran bench hitter (Wigginton), a lefthanded reliever (, who held lefty hitters to a .405 OPS last season) and the versatile Cedeno. In mid-2011, the initially much-criticized trade of for relievers was a key to the championship. “It starts with the front office,” said Freese, who was acquired in Mozeliak’s first trade for aging veteran Jim Edmonds, who is now working with the front office. “The Cardinals’ front office is top notch. Our organization speaks for itself.”

With the Cardinals, their play is the thing, not their words.

It goes without saying, the Cardinals’ greatest attribute may be their resolve to win. It’s not clear whether that’s a carryover from the LaRussa-Duncan era (Matheny had a nice first season) or something more deeply ingrained, perhaps even steeped in the tradition of the organization.

Clearly, they didn’t rest after their fantastic come-from-behind 2011 World Series win, forging a 3-1 NLCS lead in games before falling to the eventual champion Giants. Most of them seemed to spend the winter not luxuriating in another success story but raths has offers arriving from Brazil.Off contract at the end of the month, Juanfran has been contacted by Sao Paulo and Corinthians.Efe says Sao Paulo chief Rai has spoken with Juanfran directly about a move to South America.Earlier this month, the fuller thinking about what might have been. Freese ultimately concluded the Giants simply deserved the ring. Speaking of the trio of gems spun by , and , Freese said, “I haven’t seen three games pitched like that in a row, especially in a high-pressure situation.”

That certainly doesn’t mean these Cardinals brushed it off easily because, if anything, the opposite is true. They take defeats personally. Asked if the anguish of a tough finish lingers more than the joy of a great one does, Wainwright answered, succinctly, “Apparently, because I’m still hurting.”

The talent in the Cardinals’ room is obvious, but the success goes way deeper than that. The loss of Carpenter (and Lohse) will be felt, at least initially, but their trio of kid pitchers has a chance to be special. If it is, don’t be shocked if they win a 12th World Series title. Even if they all aren’t quite ready to take Carp’s place on the mound or in the clubhouse, the Cards will still be a threat. You know they will.

Ahmed technically isn’t a member of the Diamondbacks yet, as the deal hasn’t been officially announced. But once it’s official, Ahmed might not remain in Arizona for long.

The Diamondbacks were mentioned as a potential trade partner for Porcello , but they weren’t thought to have the right mix of players to get a deal done. The Tigers reportedly were then seeking a shortstop. But now that the D-Backs have an extra shortstop, they may have the pieces to match up with the Tigers.

Free agent preview: Scott Hairston

content_img

(US Presswire)

Over his career, Scott Hairston has done two things fairly well. He’s managed to hit for power, and he’s been particularly effective against left-handed pitching. That type of skill set definitely puts a limit on his usage, and teams have noticed, limited Hairston to no more than 464 plate appearances in a single season. Those skills are useful enough to keep him employed, however, and potentially valuable in a platoon role. As Jonny Gomes showed, players with part-time power can get paid on the open market. But even though Hairston’s 20 home run season put him in a good position entering free agency, he shouldn’t expect to receive a significant pay day.

The Hairston vs Gomes comparison falls flat in one major area, which becomes obvious when looking at their career slash lines.

PlayerPAAVGOBPSLGScott Hairston23990.2470.3020.449Jonny Gomes30600.2440.3370.455

Gomes holds a significant advantage in on-base percentage, which is likely the reason the Red Sox gave him a two-year, $10 million deal. Gomes’ strong walk rate led to a .377 on-base percentage last season. That figure ranked 18 in baseball among players with at least 300 plate appearances. Hairston, on the other hand, finished the season with a .299 OBP, one of the worst rates in the league. They actually produced similar valule for PSG fullback Thomas Meunier.Everton are in talks with PSG about a deal for the Belgium international. However, Le 10 Sport says Atletico are also interested in Meunier, well aware the fullback’s future at PSG is clouded.PSG need to raise €100e last season, with Gomes’ 2.1 WAR just edging out Hairston’s 2.0, but Gomes has a mnchester Uns they’re calm about his situation at PSG.The Polish goalkeeper left Chelsea in the summer for PSG, where he has been strictly third choice this season. But agent Yves Le Mee told Paristeam.fr: “From the start, it was agreed that he had to attack the ited midfielder Bruno Fernandes has earned an award in Portugal after leaving Sporting CP.Fernandes has been named as the midfielder of the month for January in the Portuguese top-flight.He played four league games for Sporting during the ore dependable skill set, which led to a nice deal on the market.

On top of that, Gomes is also a significantly better platoon player. Against lefties, Hairston has hit .276/.325/.500, with a .353 wOBA. That’s pretty decent, but doesn’t come close to what Gomes has shown against lefties. Gomes holds a .284/.382/.512 line against southpaws, with a .385 wOBA.

It’s nearly impossible to find a good comparable for Hairston since most of his recent value is tied to his production last season. Looking at players who have produced similar value to Hairston over his past three seasons gives you guys clearly on their way out of the league. The most similar players to Hairston over that period includes Jody Gerut, Aaron Rowand and Reed Johnson. Gerut’s career ended the next season and Rowand only received 351 more plate appearances before his career was over. Only Johnson went on to play multiple seasons after his age-32 season. When Johnson signed with the Dodgers the next year, it was only for $800,000.

Hairston made $1.1 million in 2012, a number that is sure to rise after a strong walk season. But due to his poor performances in prior seasons, signing him to a multi-year deal would be risky. Nearly all of Hairston’s value over the past couple seasons comes from 2012. He’s not really a two-win player going forward, even though he played like one last year.

That makes him fairly difficult to evaluate. He’s likely to make more than $1.1 million next season, but he doesn’t deserve to make $5 million annually like Gomes. That probably puts Hairston somewhere between $2 million and $4 million per season. Due to his inconsistent performances, he should probably only get a one-year deal. Hairston could be a strong fourth outfielder on a contending team, but could opt for a better opportunity with a lesser team if it means he’ll receive more playing time.

Jeremy Affeldt one of many postseason heroes for Giants

content_img

(Getty Images)

DETROIT — One of the many unsung heroes in the Giants’ World Series sweep of the Tigers is left-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt. Not only did the veteran work 1 2/3 all-important innings in the 4-3, 10-inning Game 4 Giants win, but he sliced through the middle of the Tigers’ powerful offense in one of the most pivotal parts of Game 4.

With the scored tied, Affeldt walked Avisail Garcia to start the eighth inning. Evidently he just wanted to challenge himself, because Affeldt proceeded to strike out triple crown winner Miguel Cabrera … then elite power hitter Prince Fielder … then postseason home-run machine Delmon Young. Affeldt then opened the ninth inning by striking out Andy Dirks. He’d get a flyout off the bat of Jhonny Peralta before departing.

Soclub to the Champions League final, Pochettino says they must buy to maintain their progress. He told Partidazo de Cope: “I will not make decisions after the final, it is important to know what the future plan is. If we want to return to the Champions in 1 2/3 innings, Affeldt recorded four strikeouts while allowing no one past first base, even though he was facing the meat of the Tigers’ order late in a tie game. Still, the back-to-back-to-back K’s of Cabrera, Fielder and Young were most impressive.

The overall result wasn’t altogether shocking, considering how hot Affeldt has been of late. During the postseason, he threw 10 1/3 innings, allowing only five hits, three walks (one was intentional) and nary an earned run. He struck out 10.

The funny thing is, Affeldt did it all through yet another weird injury. He seems to be a magnet for those — remember the sliced hand as he was separatiner United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Alexis Sanchez should be fit forelevision channel to feature on sports streaming subscription service DAZN in Italy, reports, /.The agreement, which was confirmed by DAZN, will see the (over-the-top) OTT platform show a range of content from the top-flight Italian club’s Milan TV, the start of the season. The Chilean suffered an injury representing his country at Copa America.Sanchez suffered a hamstring strain during their defeat in the third-place playog frozen hamburgers with a sharp knife, or perhaps hurting his knee while hugging his son? Then, in Game 5 of the NLDS against the Reds, a hard foul ball into the Giants’ dugout sent Affeldt to the ground to avoid being struck, bracing himself with his left hand and jamming it. And yet, he still continued to thrive in the postseason.

“He did such a tremendous job down the stretch,” said Game 4 starter Matt Cain. “He’d been kinda struggling with some little injuries throughout the season. It was kinda odd, it seemed like him getting oddly hurt in Cincinnati kind of benefitted him a little bit.”

And while Affeldt was good before the injury, Cain is kind of right. Affeldt allowed three hits in 3 2/3 innings before the injury with two strikeouts. After, he only gave up two hits in 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts. Even ignoring stats, the eye test showed us a knee-buckling breaking ball. Cain agreed.

“He went out there with unbelievable stuff with the sinker/slider combo.”

And the other thing Affeldt did was record perhaps the three most important outs of the series. So when praising the likes of Pablo Sandoval, Marco Scutaro, Sergio Romo, Tim Lincecum, Ryan Vogelsong, Brandon Crawford, Gregor Blanco, Hunter Pence, Buster Posey, Barry Zito, Madison Bumgarner, Bruce Bochy and, well, pretty much the entire team, do not forget about Affeldt. He was integral.

AL wild-card preview: Can Orioles tame Rangers’ bats?

content_img

(AP)

In very different ways, these are two of the most surprising teams in baseball. Almost no one expected the Orioles to finish anywhere but last in the AL East, and the Rangers were all but universally regarded as the best team in baseball. The O’s have shocked us all, and while the Rangers can still achieve their ultimate goal, they’re not quite the team we thought they’d be.

Those dynamics will be in play, as and meet in the AL wild-card game. The ara is staying calm over talk of a return to the Premier League. The former Arsenal trainee has been in top form for Steven Gerrard’s side, since his move from Dundee in January – and has been linked with Aston Villa.Going up to Scotland’s been good fwinner earns the right to face the in the ALDS.

The visiting Orioles haven’t yet decided whether they’ll pitch lefty (4.02 ERA, 174 2/3 IP with and Baltimore this season) or right-hander (2.11 ERA, 38 1/3 IP), but the Rangers have named (3.90 ERA, 191 1/3 IP) as their wild-card starter.

The rookie Darvish has yet to face the Orioles. While not specific to his Friday opponent, it’s worth noting that Darvish has been a wholly different pitcher . Over that seven-start span, he’s posted a 2.13 ERA and struck out 59 batters against just 10 walks.

In his career, Saunders has been cuffed around pretty badly by Brendan Rodgers has spoken highly of Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana. The 31-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the season, with Leicester linked with a move, along with Tottenham and Arsenal.”Adam is a fantastic player and one I broughtcurrent Rangers hitters — cuffed around to the tune of .347/.407/.669. As with most numbers of this nature, we’re talking about a pretty small sample size, but that’s still a source of concern.

The rookie Johnson, meanwhile, has just one appearance against Texas, and it was in relief: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 K, 0 BB. It’s worth noting that the Ranger offense this season has been slightly less effective against rin’t rule out leaving Barcelona this summer.Away with Brazil for the Copa America, the midfielder says any move, however, won’t be considered until after the tournament.Coutinho said, “Many things that come out are not true. “I am totally focused on tght-handers, so that’s a possible point for Johnson.

Texas won five of seven games against the Orioles this season, and in those seven games they out-scored the O’s by a margin of 56-24. They last met for a three-game set that concluded on Aug. 22, and the Rangers took two of three in Arlington.

… they lean heavily on a rested bullpen to keep the Texas bats in check.

The Rangers can rake in any environment but especially in their hitter-friendly home digs. Given the suspect nature of either Baltimore starter, a quick hook seems likely. Then it will fall to the bullpen to keep runs off the board.

The good news is that the Oriole bullpen has a very strong arrangement right now, and a number of their very best relievers — namely , and  — are coming off a day of rest.

… Darvish pitches like he did down the stretch.

It’s that simple, really. The one wrinkle is whether Darvish’s recent neck soreness, which caused him to miss a recent scheduled start, will affect him in any way. If he’s on, there may be little the Orioles can do.

Is Mariano Rivera waffling on his promise to return?

(Associated Press)

Is Mariano Rivera coming back next season? His words gave some hints, but often the truth is in the eye of the beholder.

Rivera appeared Saturday at the practice of English soccer team Chelsea on Saturday before the team’s game at Yankee Stadium on Sunday and spoke to reporters.

The Daily News wrote Rivera was having second thoughts about returning in 2013, while was that he was not rushing back for 2012.

The lead quote for the Daily News certainly strengthens its case:

“I don’t even -Jules move out on-loan.The young striker signed to the end of the season with Lincoln City last week.Bould said, “It’s fabulous for him. “Playing with men, playing proper league football and that’s where we want to move them to and that’s our next sknow if I want to play next year,” Rivera said Saturday, . “I don’t know what tomorrow is going to bring. One day at a time.”

That quote doesn’t appear in the Post’s storyis season.Speaking with Sport, Messi was asked about Barcelona’s rivals in the Champions League.“I think everyone strengthened and signed the players they needed,” he said.“I think Atletico have built a great team and made some very good signings.

The guts of the story is that Rivera, 42, said he is rehabbing his injury every day and would love to be playing right now. Still, he said he doesn’t have a timetable for his return and doesn’t want to rush his rehab.

After he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in May, Rivera said he was coming back — he wasn’t quite so adamant on Saturday. Still, even the same statement can be read either way. Both stories had what is presumably the same quote, even though there’s slightly different wording and interpretations.

:

“I love it,” Rivera said. “I love the game. I love the competition. I love being on the field.

“Going out like that, to me, I won’t take it. I want to go out on my own terms. Definitely. As a Christian you have to understand when the Lord is trying to tell you something. But I will do my part. The rest is out of my control.”

:

“I want to go out on my own terms,” Rivera said on Saturday. “But also as a Christian, you have to understand the Lord is trying to do tell you something. I will do my part, though.”

His comments may be a Rorschach test of what you want to believe. Two reporters heard the same thing and believed the words meant two different things. What is certain iChelsea goalkeeper Nathan Baxter has joined Ross County on loan for the 2019/20 season. The goalkeeper, 20, spent the previous campaign with Yeovil Town in League Two.He enjoyed a fine spell at Huish Park, claiming all five of the club’s Player of the Season awards.Baxter has previously helped Chelsea lift both the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League.s that Rivera’s comments left his future open to interpretation, something he didn’t do in May when he said he’d be back.

Hamels hears recruiting pitches, says they won’t work

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Recruiting pitches at the All-Star Game don’t always work.Remember that two years ago in Anaheim, the Angels made sure Torii Hunter lockered right next to free-agent-to-be Carl Crawford. Crawford, of course, bypassed the Angels that winter to sign with the Red Sox.But bring the best players in baseball together, and you can be sure they’ll try to influence their teammates-for-a-McTominay into a better player.Fernandes is getting rave reviews for his own performances since joining United in January.“Bruno can help Scott impove, definitely. Bruno is going to give us loads, definitely, and he is going to help the young kid,”day. The last two days, Cole Hamelsade-Chamberlain clashed Manchester United fans after full-time at Old Trafford. The midfielder was clearly told to “F*** off” while talking to one fan, while another rejected his offer of a fist bump. It’s not clear why the 26-year-old went to the home has heard it all.Hamels, whose locker in the National League clubhouse was next to Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw’s, insisted that the recruiting pitches won’t help.”All I say to them is that I’ve been to every city, and I know what every city is like,” Hamels said before Tuesday’s game. The Phillies are still trying to re-sign Hamels, and there’s also a real chance he could be traded by July 31 if he doesn’t sign first. But Hamels spent Tuesday talking abored PSG striker Edinson Cavani this month. The Telegraph says United are weighing up the possibility of signing Cavani – but are wary of repeating the mistakes made with Alexis Sanchez.Cavani is out of contract at Paris-Saint Germain this summer and lut how the Phillies still might be able to go on a run and get back in a race.Hamels was encouraged by the news that Roy Halladay will make a rehabilitation start Thursday, and could rejoin the Phillies rotation soon after that.”We might start a roll,” Hamels said. “We might even be able to sweep a team. Have we done that this year?”We have to get back to having confidence. If we do that, we can be the team that won 102 games [last year].”The Phillies have not swept a three-game series this year. They swept seven three-game series and three four-game series last year.
