Spurs-Warriors Game 5 Preview: Best two out of three

content_img

A preview of Tuesday night’s Game 5 between the and .

The Golden State Warriors outlasted the San Antonio Spurs in overtime in Game 4 to even up the series at two games apiece. The Spurs had a perfect opportunity to execute in the fourth quarter and find their way to a 3-1 series lead by closing out the Warriors in Game 4. However, they couldn’t get shots to fall. was 1 of 5 in the fourth quarter and missed a big shot that plored his Liverpool squad to play with freedom in Wednesday’s crunch Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid at Anfield. The Spaniards have a 1-0 lead after the first leg of the last-16 tie.And Klopp has said his players must use the threat ofcould have won the game after dropping  to the ground with a behind-the-back move. Instead of closing out the fourth, the Warriors won the overtime period 13-3 to survive the first four games with a 2-2 split. They probably couldn’t have realistically asked for more here.

39.0. Even though the Spurs couldn’t execute down the stretch in Game 4, itsea.Wilder saw plenty of Mount in the Championship last season during the midfielder’s loan at Derby. He said, “No surprise at all. If you look through Derby’s season last year, he did fantastically well. They turned us over at their place, deserved’s the Warriors that are having big problems in the fourth quarters of this series. They’ve been held to an effective field goal percentage of 39.0 in the first four games, and need to find a way to keep their offensive magic going through all 48 minutes. Some of this coud be attributed to too many isolation plays in the final period for the Warriors, but really the Spurs are just sitting on their sets when they do run plays and forcing them into bad shots. The only thing the Warriors have really been good at in fourth quarters is getting to the free throw line and not turning the ball over. But they have to find and open shots in the fourth to put the pressure on the Spurs to execute.

Making the Warriors run plays in the fourth quarter. The Warriors have been running more isolation plays at the end of the game than they have in the first three quarters. Is that a bad thing? Yes and no. It’s a good thing because they’re getting decent separation on shots and it takes away the likelihood of a turnover when they re interested in Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga. That’s according to his brother and agent, Daniel. He told Radio Punto Nuovo: “Anything’s possible in football, but he started the season with Sassuolo and he will finish it with them.“For me it’s not do this. However, it’s not utilizing the play sets and the talent that brought them to this point in the playoffs. Even running more pick-and-rolls right now could help cure these shooting woes in the fourth quarter of the first four games. Even though isn’t a threat to score from anywhere that isn’t at the rim, using him as the roll man sets up his passing ability to find shooters in either corner. That’s where Thompson and Curry should be spotting up to spread the floor. That way has the room to operate while the rest of the team is in position to make the defense play.

Youth vs. experience. We’re down to a best two out of three in this series with the young team having to win at least one game on the road. How do they respond? How do the Spurs try to use their savvy and expertise to expose the inexperience of the Warriors? We have two good coaches (yes, Mark Jackson is officially a good coach) who have done a fantastic job of getting their teams into the right mindset to execute and play good basketball. Gregg Popovich will have to get Ginobili and  into positions to pick the Warriors’ defense apart. Jackson will have to find ways to get Curry and Thompson into good shots on the perimeter, where they shined all season. It should be a lot of fun.

9:30 p.m. ET start time. Curry has a sore ankle but will play.

First it was the Cavs being discussed as a partner in the ‘ ill-fated mess of a trade proposal that flamed out a week and a half ago. Now the Cavaliers have entered discussions as potentially helping the land Howard, with their bevy of assets. The talks are in their infant stages, but it’s still worth noting what’s being bandied about.

From ESPN.com:

One source familiar with the talks, though, cautioned to not make too much of that shift just yet. The Cavaliers would land Lakers center for a package of draft picks and veteran power forward , according to one league source. The Lakers would receive Howard for Bynum. Orlando would get Varejao and draft picks. It’s a very nice fit if the talks progess. The Cavaliers want a star to pair with , and Bynum gives them that. He and Irving would make for a devastating pair. The Cavaliers have young talent like and to send to Orlando, as well as additional picks acquired in trades. Varejao would give the a quality center to start over with, and a good veteran with a manageable deal. It would also provide salary room to send out either or . The Lakers reportedly will not take on Turkoglu’s deal but are open to Richardson’s. It’s unlikely that Cleveland would be receptive to taking on Turkoglu’s deal, but for a chance at Bynum, and with their cap space, it’s not a dead-set no at this point.

Either way, tartinez and Antonio Candreva decided the Champions League win with a goal in either half.“Borussia Dortmund changed their system to five at the back, which means they were afraid of us and wanted to play by changing their approach to mirror ours,” he Cavaliers are getting involved at all angles to try and work their way into improving their team using the inevitable Dwight Howard trade.

Miami Heat’s Chris Bosh believes he’s already a Hall of Famer

content_img

(Getty Images)

After being selected to his eighth All-Star Game in a career that has only been 10 seasons long,  big man Chris Bosh is excited about the honor. He’s not one of those veterans who wants to skip the weekend and just “chill.” , after all.

Bosh wants to participate in the festivities. And being selected to another All-Star teof talks for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala.A Bola says Porto have been put off a possible £42million signing because of a knee problem. They feel there is too much risk that Mangala will suffer another knee issue during their pre-season tam also means his Hall of Fame candidacy just got stronger. How strong is his case? :

“Hell, yeah, of course. I’ve been a Hall of Famer like four years ago,” the Miami Heat center told FOX Sports Florida after Friday’s 110-88 win over Detroit.

Bosh has been a Hall of Famer since four years ago? He was a Hall of Fame player after 439 games in his first six seasons and just two playoff appearances? Why would he believe that?

“And I say that very serious, though. I’ve talked about it before with my friends.”

Well if he’s talked it over with his friends…

Looking at Bosh’s career so far, it wouldn’t shock me for him to end up a Hall of Fame worthy player by the end of his career. Basketball-Reference.com has his HOF probability set at 89.3 percent, 11th highest among active players. The players he is behind are , , , , , , , , , and . These are all guys who seem like locks to make the Hall of Fame.

Bosh currently sits at 13,426 points, 6,167 rebounds and 1,429 assists for his career. There are 69 players in NBA history who have talled 13,000 points, 6,000 rebounds, and 1,400 assists in their career. Of those players, , but at least a dozen of them seem to have a great case for eventually finding themselves celebrated in Springfield, Mass.

The only Hall of Fame eligible player in NBA history with eight All-Star appearances or more to not make the Hall is Larry Foust, the former Fort Wayne ‘ big man who played from 1950 to 1962.

Just doing some crude math and estimations, if is able to average somewhere around the 17 points, 7 rebounds and 1.7 assists while playing 75 games per season for the next eight seasons, then he’d finish his career with around 23,000 points, 10,000 reboundve that being gay would negatively impact a footballer’s career. Many point to the fact that not a single Premier League player has come out regarding their sexuality as proof of football’s backwards attitude towards homosexuality. However, Dyche belies and 2,400 assists. Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kevin Garnett, Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, Tim Duncan, Charles Barkley and Elgin Baylor are the only players in NBA history to finish with those numbers. Six of those guys have made the or Lorient striker Alexis Claude-Maurice.A £6.1million bid from the Gunners has been rejected.Ligue 2 side Lorient are thought to be holding out for closer to £9m for their prized asset. But Mohamed Toubache-TER – who first revealed Guendouzi was heHall of Fame and Shaq, KG and Duncan are locks to make it when they’re eligible.

While Bosh isn’t out of line for thinking he will be a Hall of Fame player when it’s all said and done, claiming it happened four years ago does seem a little brash.

The players who went too high and too low in this NBA Draft

content_img

The 2013 NBA Draft is now officially behind us.

Who went higher than he should’ve?

And lower than he should’ve?

Let’s take a look.

I’m just not sold that Len will be a nice player considering he never emerged as a star or led Maryland to anywhere of note through two years of college. Put me in charge of the draft, and Len goes closer to 10 than where he was actually selected. But, thank god, he wasn’t the No. 1 overall pick. That was the rumor this time Thursday, and that never made much sense.

Should you take a guaranteed D-League player in the lottery? If you’re as good as Oklahoma City will be next season, perhaps you can. But this is a total upside pick, and, the problem is, I just don’t love Adams’ upside as much as some, specifically Sam Presti.

: I was stunned when the took Hill at 23. Why do that? For starters, I’m not sure what Indiana sees in Hill to make it think the four-year player at Arizona is worth a guaranteed contrinho is delighted working with summer signing Ryan Sessegnon.Mourinho has compared Sessegnon to his former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole. “I think Ryan is absolutely fantastic, I have known him since a kid in Fulham,” Mourinho said. “When he comes act. But let’s say I’m wrong and the Pacers are right, that Hill will be a good NBA player. Fine. But why take him at 23? That was unnecessary. The Pacers should’ve moved out of the first round and selected Hill later, at worst.

I don’t hate the Roberson pick as much as I hate some of these others. But I just don’t think he’ll end up being one of the top 30 guys from this draft despite being picked 26th. The former Colorado standout is not a small forward, and he’s too small to play power forward. I anticipate that being a problem. But we’ll see.

I’ve watched Oriakhi play dozens of times and never once thought he looked like an NBA player. In fairness, he went 57th. So what’s the big deal? But why waste a pick on somebody who has shown throughout a four-year college career than he can’t play in the NBA? Why not use that pick to take a flyer on a younger prospect and give yourself some hope?

Noel has long been considered the top prospect in this draft, and I’m not sure how or why that changed so drastically. His knee is reportedly fine. So it’s not that. In short, I think, people made mistakes here. Noel should’ve never fallen out of the top five.

I had Burke going second overall in my mock draft even though I knew that probably wouldn’t happen. I just wanted to make a point about how much I like him, and so I was hoping he’d land in a nice spot where he’ll be able to flourish. Utah is that spot. Burke will be the NBA Rookie of the Year. I’d take odds on that right now.

I’m not sure if Canaan will start the season with Houston or in the D-League, but Mestre has eased talk of challenging Real Madrid for Manchester United star Paul Pogba.Pogba has been tipped to replace Ivan Rakitic in the Barcelona midfield.”Everyone likes Pogba,” Mestre said. “But not every player that we like comes to Barcelonahe’s going to be a rotation player in the NBA. He’s a steal at 34.

The managed to get a lottery talent outside of the top 35, which is always nice. Who knows if Mitche than 300 appearances for the Blues since joining from Anzhi Makhachkala seven years ago, and has outlined why he is feeling good about the future. The Brazilian said: “He [Lampard] always says to me ‘I want you to be happy’.“That’s why I have beell will tap into his potential? But if he does, watch out. This is a prospect with lots of natural ability, one who was undeniably worth a flyer at this point in the draft.

I recognize all of Thomas’ deficiencies, but there weren’t 57 better players in this draft. He’ll be able to score off the bench in the NBA. The just got another second-round steal, which is so like the Spurs.

The Inbounds: What Tim Duncan shows off the court

content_img

Why don’t we get ?

And that’s not “Why don’t we understand him?” Because to misunderstand someone, you have to at least have a passing knowledge of them. We don’t know Tim Duncan.

At all.

At USA Today, Sam Amick, one of the premier player-centric reporters on the web, has a piece on Duncan specifically built around the fact that Duncan still doesn’t let anyone in.

“The Big Stoic,” “The Big Recluse” or — if you care for the classics — “The Big Fundamental” has agreed to field two questions about his latest Father Time-defying feats. And the first query about how hes doing it — “What drives you at this point in your career?” — inspired a smirk that, much like the secrets to his remarkable season, will go unexplained. And the answer, as is almost always the case when it comes to him, isnt nearly as compelling as his one-of-a-kind career. “Its a lot of different stuff, but honestly I just feel healthy right now,” Duncan told USA TODAY Sports during what evolved into a five-question session. “I feel like I have my legs underneath me for the first time in a while. My knee pain is way down, and I just feel good on the floor.”

(via )

That’s what you get. Lots of players feel they don’t have any responsibility to the media, that all that matters is what’s on the floor. His approach is that what you see is what you get.

So let’s take a look at what we see.

There’s this idea that the are boring and lifeless, and that couldn’t be further from the truth; they just have no interest or willingness to give members of the media the time of day. And while this makes me unbelievably sad, it doesn’t take away from their comedic genius, which is best shown in their series of commercials for Texas grocery store chain HEB (Here Everything’s Better, in the most Texan Texas-y Texas thing ever).

You see his physical work here, as even in a two-second appearance, he manages to wrap a range of emotions into his work. Contentment, surprise, confusion, it’s all there. This still counts as more emotion than he has ever expressed on the court outside of when Joey Crawford is officiating a game.

The tuxedo shirt is clearly the high point here. Duncan’s quiet moment of pride for this stylish opulence is a transcendent meta-parody of himself. The least boastful human being, left prideful by this bold fashion statement. PS: saw this commercial and immediately went out and bought 10 of these shirts.

Here, Duncan takes a more wry crack at himself. I particularly enjoy this era of Tim Duncan style, with the mild fro and the near-Matisyahu beard. He seems to be trying to speak to us in a place beyond “That Green Stuff” (which really is incredible). He’s trying to let us know that beneath that clockwork exterior stands a soul with the wide range of human experience we all struggle through. Wherever Tim Duncan’s happy place is, it is not the court.

(Additionally, “It makes me wish I had two mouths” by is the MVP line of this commercial. )

What’s odd here is that Duncan is so consistent on the floor. You never find yourself saying “Man, Duncan simply is not giving great effort tonight.” He plays at the same level each night. Yet, he’s clearly not into the moment here. He’s too self-conscious and seems caught between playing it straight and being annoyed at the antics of the other two. But maybe that’s the point. Duncan isn’t consistent everywhere, and it’s only his hollow exterior when on the floor that allows him to clone his performance night after night.

(MVP Moment: Barry’s one-hand candle blow-out.)

Duncan is engaged here. It’s a strong performance from beginning to end, topped with the “It’s better than y’all’s!” at the end. “Y’all” is just not what you expect from Duncan, despite his time in Texas.

(Additional note: That’s a very clear Texas “y’all.” It’s got the little lift on the a, vs., say, the Arkansas “y’all,” which h Diego Simeone says his players followed his instructions to the letter for victory over Liverpool.Saul Niguez’s early goal proved the matchwinner as Atletico won 1-0 the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie in Madrid. At the final whifeatures a “wull” sound at the end. “Y’awull.”)

Duncan’s work as the straight man works, obviously. He’s convincing as the narrow guy to play off of, without the overstated “What?” Ginobili provides. In many ways, Duncan experiences here what we all experience with him, the surprising discovery that we will never be let behind the rope.

(MVP moment: A Pop appearance?!)

You know what else is magic? Tim Duncan.

The fact that Duncan plays the oddball in these commercials is kind of amazing. He’s the team leader and the Hall of Famer (or at least the first one to get in), and yet he’s the guy who played Dungeons and Dragons and is a bit of a weirdo. It’s a perfect setup for one of the most cerebral players of all time.

A departure from the HEB commercials brings us this classic from 2008. Duncan says nothing throughout the entire commercial, and in the filmed beginning with the introductions, he looks about as awkward as can be. “Why am I saying hi to you when I said hi to you five minutes ago and I don’t like you?” seems to be his general mood.

It’s also emblematic given that KG starts the game, Duncan finishes it.

In a lot of ways, this is our relationship with Tim Duncan. We keep offering him more and more of ourselves, our respect, ap are threatening Inter Milan plans for Machester United striker Romelu Lukaku.New Inter coach Antonio Conte is eager to land the Belgian, but now Napoli are in contact.Gazzetta dello Sport says Napoli are offering €10m-a-year to Lukaku.Interestinglpreciation, accolades, and he just stares back. Will he ever give us the American Express card … of his heart? (OK, that was a bit much even for me. My bad.)

(MVP moment: The grin on his face when he hands over the card.)

And really, isn’t that how Tim has passed through his era? Quietly?

(“”)

He seems so friendly! “I just wanted somewhere people can hang out.” Why will you never hang out with us, Tim? Why?

(Don’t answer that.)

I have no commentary here; I just like Duncan’s thumbs-up at the end.

“I heard mermaids.”

“Mangoes don’t do that, Manu.”

So what did we learn?

Well, nothing. I just wanted to do breakdowns on all these Duncan commercials.

But here’s what’s nuts: This may be as close as we ever come to any sort of look at Duncan’s personality or his wit. He’s never going to let us in. Can’t you imagine Duncan retiring in a few with a summer move to Paris. And he told Canal Football Club: “Paris is among the top eight European clubs. They want to pass a milestone in the Champions League, it’s a very big club that attracts any player. There is a sports project, there are ver years, giving a brief Hall of Fame speech where he thanks Popovich and his teammates, and that’s it? No book. No interviews. No TV appearances?

I want to blast Duncan and beg him to reveal more of himself, to tell him that the world just wants an opportunity to get past the exterior and maybe have a look at who he is out of respect and admiration, but there’s no point in explaining the bicycle to the goldfish. He doesn’t need it.

And neither does Tim Duncan.
