Mets’ Wright says goal is opening day, but can’t guarantee it

PORT ST. LUCIE — star said his goal is to play opening day. It’s too early to guarantee it, though.

“That’s looking to predict the future,” said Wright, who returned to Mets camp after trips to both the WBC and the doctor. “I can’t do that. I won’t do that. … Obviously the goal of mine is to be ready for opening day. But first things first, and that’s getting the pain out of my side.”

Wright came out of the WBC with what’s being called a moderate strain of the left y Blind has been diagnosed with a heart condition after suffering from dizziness during the Champions League game against Valencia on 10 December.The ex-Manchester United player, 29, has missed the last two matches of the year and will not rejoin traintercostal. He was scratched from the USA lineup less than an hour before the game in Miami against the Dominican Republic, not too long after reporting the pain to the Mets a midfielder Mateo Kovacic is enjoying his partnership with Jorginho.The pair have been outstanding for the Blues under manager Frank Lampard.”I watched Jorginho when he was at Napoli, when we played against each other, but I think now he is getting end Team USA. “If I can still play my game, I’m going to try to play through it,” he said. “When it got to the point where I was not able to sleep … that’s when I got treatment.”

Wright said he tries to play through tweaks and bruises, whether he’s in spring training, the WBC or regular-season games. “If I needed to call somebody everytime I felt something, I wouldn’t play too many games,” he said.

He doesn’t blame the WBC. “Playing ball, there’s some risk that comes along with that,” he said.

When Wright started to have concern about whether the injury could affect playing real games for the Mets, that’s when he reported it and started getting treatment. And that’s when his stint in the WBC was over. He is hopeful he can make it back for the real games because he has played a lot already and is baseball-ready.

His concern, he said, is that “once this thing is knocked out, we have to keep it out.”

He did return with a new nickname, “Captain America,” for his superb play and leadership in guiding Team USA to three wins in four games before the Americans lost two straight to fall out of it without him.
